Follow this guide to install and connect the Beam Shell Agent tools using the MCP Server method.

Step-by-step: Connect the Beam Shell Agent to Orchestrate

Once you have selected the Beam Shell Agent in IBM watsonx Orchestrate, follow these steps to install the required MCP tools and activate the connection to Beam:

  1. Open the Agent Toolset

Navigate to Manage Agents in Orchestrate.

  • Select your agent (e.g., Invoice Reconciliation).

  • In the left menu, click Toolset.

  • Click Add Tool.

2. Add Tools from MCP Server

  1. In the “Add a new tool” dialog, select Add from file or MCP server.

  2. Choose Import from MCP Server.

  3. Fill in the fields as follows:

    1. Name: Any name you prefer (e.g., Beam MCP Proxy)

    2. Connection: Select None

    3. Install Command as follows

Use this:

uvx mcp-proxy https://api.beamstudio.ai/mcp --stateless --transport streamablehttp

3. Enable Required Tools

Once the MCP Server installation is complete, two tools will appear in the agent’s toolset:

  • beam_ai:startTask

  • beam_ai:listenTask

Enable both tools.

You’re Done

Your agent is now connected to the Beam platform via the Beam MCP Server and ready to process tasks in real-time.
