Task creation from Slack

Workast turns Slack messages into tracked tasks with owners and due dates. When a message is marked for follow-up, a Beam agent reads the thread, applies your rule for who should own it and which project it belongs to, and writes a new task back into Workast with those details filled in. It links the task to the original conversation for context. Messages that are too vague to act on, or that could belong to several projects, are routed to a team lead who confirms the owner and scope before the task is created.

Project boards

Workast groups tasks into project boards that show what each team is working on. A Beam agent reads task movement across a board, applies your rule for when an item counts as blocked, in progress, or done, and writes the corrected state back so the board matches actual work. It closes items whose linked Slack thread has clearly wrapped up. Tasks that stall with no update, or that were closed while questions remain open, are routed to a lead, who decides whether to reopen, reassign, or push the deadline.

Due-date reminders

Workast follows each task's due date so nothing quietly slips. A Beam agent reads upcoming and overdue items, applies your rule for how far ahead to warn and whom to tell, and writes reminders or nudges back into the right Slack channel. It escalates gently as a deadline nears. Tasks that are overdue and tied to a larger deliverable, or that keep getting pushed, are routed to a manager who decides whether to intervene, rather than letting the agent send another reminder into a thread that is clearly stuck.
