On-the-Fly Image Resizing

ImageKit.io resizes an image to whatever dimensions a page or app template calls for, generated on request rather than stored as a separate file for every size. A new image uploaded to a product listing or article is what prompts a Beam agent to request a resized version, reading back the URL ImageKit.io returns and saving it on the record in place of the original full size file. A source image too small to resize up without looking stretched stays in its original form, with the listing flagged for a person to source a better image.

Automatic Format Conversion

ImageKit.io can serve an image in a modern, smaller format suited to the requesting browser instead of the original file type it was uploaded as. A Beam agent reads which format got served for a given page's images on a periodic check, and updates the account's media record with the delivered format and resulting file size for reporting. A browser or embedded email client that can't display the converted format properly prompts a fallback to the original file rather than a broken image, with a person notified if that keeps happening.

Media Asset URL Management

ImageKit.io hosts uploaded media and gives each file a stable URL that can be requested at different sizes or formats without re-uploading it. An image uploaded against a product, article, or profile record is what a Beam agent reads the ImageKit.io URL for, writing that URL onto the record so every page using it shows the current image. An expected image missing from ImageKit.io, say after a failed upload, leaves the record's image field blank, with a person notified rather than a broken link left in place.
