Date and Time Formatting

Pipedream's Helper Functions include prebuilt actions for reformatting dates, times, and time zones as they move between workflow steps. When an upstream trigger, such as a webhook from a CRM or spreadsheet, hands off a raw date in a format the next system does not accept, a Beam agent inserts a Helper Functions step to convert it into the expected format, then passes it along. Where the date is missing, malformed, or ambiguous, such as no year or an unrecognized locale, the agent stops the workflow at that step and notifies a person to check the source instead of guessing at the intended date.

Delay and Timing Control

The Delay action pauses a workflow for a set interval before the next step runs, which matters when a downstream system needs time to finish, such as waiting for an upload to complete before checking its status. A Beam agent adds this step where the approved workflow calls for a wait, sets the interval the account has confirmed, and resumes the workflow once the delay ends. It does not decide on its own how long a wait should be for a new case. A workflow needing a delay outside the intervals already approved gets left for a person to configure first.

Random ID and String Generation

Some workflows need a unique value, such as an order reference or a temporary code, before writing a record to another system. A Beam agent calls the Generate a Random String or UUID action where a workflow needs one, using the length and format already approved, then passes that value into the next step, such as a CRM record or a support ticket. Because these values only prevent duplicate records rather than make judgment calls, this step runs without sign-off each time. Any workflow asking for a new format not covered by existing rules gets flagged for a person to approve first.
