Live Exchange Rate Lookup

Fixer provides current foreign exchange rates across a wide set of currencies through a simple API call. A Beam agent acts when an approved record needs a currency figure, such as an invoice or expense claim in a currency different from the account's base currency, reads the source amount and currency code, and calls Fixer for the current rate. The agent applies the rate under the account's approved conversion rule and writes the converted amount back to the record. Conversions involving currencies Fixer doesn't cover, or rates that look far outside a normal range, get routed to a human to confirm.

Historical Rate Retrieval

Fixer can return exchange rates for a specific past date, not only the current rate, which matters for reconciling a transaction against the rate that applied when it happened. A Beam agent begins a historical lookup when a finance record needs a rate matching its original transaction date, reads that date and currency pair from the record, and requests the matching rate from Fixer under the account's approved rule. The agent writes the historical rate and converted amount back to the record. Dates outside Fixer's available history, or records with a missing transaction date, get routed to a human to complete.

Multi-Currency Total Recalculation

Fixer supplies the rates needed to bring a set of amounts in different currencies into one base currency for reporting. A Beam agent steps in when an approved batch of invoices or expenses in mixed currencies needs a combined total, reads each line's amount and currency, and converts every line to the account's base currency using Fixer under the approved rule. The agent writes the combined total back to the summary record. Batches with a currency Fixer doesn't support, or amounts that seem inconsistent with prior totals, get routed to a human to check before the total is finalized.
