D7 SMS returns a delivery receipt for every message sent, showing whether it reached the handset, failed, or is still pending. A Beam agent reads that receipt and, where the connector and account permissions allow it, writes the outcome back to the record the message was tied to, such as a customer file or a ticket. Repeated failures to the same number over an approved threshold are flagged rather than retried automatically. A person reviews flagged numbers before any further message is sent, since repeated failures often point to a bad or disconnected number.

Two-Way SMS Replies

Customers can reply to a D7 SMS message, and that reply lands back in the account as an inbound message. A Beam agent reads the reply text, checks it against a short list of approved patterns, such as a simple confirmation word or a rescheduling request, and updates the linked record accordingly, for example marking an appointment as confirmed. Replies that don't match an approved pattern, or that raise a question needing a real answer, are routed to a person rather than answered by the agent.

STOP Keyword Opt-Outs

A reply containing a stop word like STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE needs to remove that number from future messages right away, since delays here can create compliance problems. A Beam agent reads inbound replies for these approved keywords and, where permissions allow, updates the subscriber's messaging preference so no further SMS goes out to that number. It notifies the owning team that the opt-out was applied and notes the time it took effect. Replies that resemble a stop request but don't clearly match the approved keyword list are routed to a person to confirm before any preference is changed.
