Custom Sign-Up Fields

Customer Fields lets a store add extra questions, like company name, VAT number, or referral source, to the Shopify sign-up form. A Beam agent watches for new sign-ups, reads the custom answers a shopper submits, and checks them against the store's approved rules, such as a required format for a VAT number or a minimum length for a company name. When the answers pass, the agent writes them to the customer's account so the field is filled in without manual entry. Sign-ups with blank required fields or answers that fail the format check are routed to a person before the account is confirmed.

Customer Account Field Storage

Every custom field a shopper fills in is saved directly on their Shopify customer record, alongside standard details like name and address. A Beam agent can read these stored fields on request, for example when a support ticket references a customer's account type or referral source, and pull the current value instead of asking the shopper again. Where the connector and account permissions allow it, the agent can also update a stored field after a confirmed change, such as a corrected company name. Any request to change a field tied to billing or account status is routed to a person rather than updated automatically.

Required Field Validation

Some custom fields, like a tax ID or business license number, need to follow a format the store defines before an account is treated as complete. A Beam agent reads new and edited field submissions, applies the store's approved validation rule, such as a character count or an allowed pattern, and marks the account complete once the check passes. Submissions that fail the check, or arrive with a required field left empty, are flagged and routed to a person to follow up with the customer. This keeps account records consistent without a person checking every submission by hand.
