Code Health Scoring

CodeScene assigns a code health score to files and repositories based on complexity, duplication, and known problem patterns. A Beam agent reads the score whenever it updates, applies the approved rule for what counts as a meaningful drop, and notifies the owning team or updates a tracking record. Where permissions allow, it can also compile a recurring summary across repositories instead of someone checking each one by hand. A drop tied to a deliberate architectural tradeoff, or a request to exclude a file from scoring, is routed to a human to decide.

Hotspot Analysis

CodeScene's hotspot analysis combines complexity with how often a file changes, pointing to the parts of a codebase most likely to cause problems down the line. A Beam agent reads the current hotspot list on the schedule the customer sets, applies the approved rule for what counts as high risk, and notifies the team responsible for that area of the codebase. It can also link the hotspot to an open ticket if one already exists, keeping the two connected without manual cross-referencing. Prioritizing which hotspot to fix first is a judgment call left to a human lead.

Knowledge Loss Risk Mapping

CodeScene flags files where only one or two people hold working knowledge, a risk if that person leaves the team. A Beam agent reads this mapping on the schedule set by the customer, applies the approved rule, for example flagging any critical file tied to a single author, and notifies the engineering manager. Where permissions allow, it can also update a tracking record so the risk is visible ahead of a planning cycle. Decisions about reassigning ownership or pairing engineers on a file stay with a human.
