Submit and monitor compute jobs

ByteNite splits large workloads into tasks and distributes them across a network of compute workers for processing such as rendering, transcoding, or data crunching. A Beam agent submits a job when a trigger fires, such as a new file landing in storage or a scheduled batch window, then polls the job status as workers pick up tasks. It records progress, completion time, and output location once a job finishes. When a job stalls, a worker drops out, or output looks incomplete, the agent routes the case to an engineer rather than resubmitting blindly.

Track resource usage and job cost

Distributed jobs on ByteNite consume compute time across many workers, and usage varies with job size and priority. A Beam agent reads the resource and duration figures attached to each completed job and compares them against a budget or threshold the team approved. It logs the figures against the project or client the job belongs to and updates a running total. When usage crosses an agreed limit, or a job costs noticeably more than similar past runs, the agent flags it to whoever owns the budget instead of letting it run again unchecked.

Retry and re-route failed tasks

Individual tasks within a ByteNite job can fail if a worker drops out or input data is malformed. A Beam agent reads the task-level status within a job, identifies which tasks failed, and applies the approved retry rule, such as re-queuing a task once or twice before giving up. It updates the job record with the retry count and outcome each time. When a task fails repeatedly, or the pattern suggests bad input rather than a worker problem, the agent stops retrying and routes the job to an engineer for a decision.
